About the Developer
One of my instructors back in the day used to say:
"An infantry officer must know how to do everything."
I’m pretty sure he wasn't thinking about writing clean Kotlin code or debugging nested layouts at 2 AM, but here we are.
Hi, I’m the solo developer behind HWA Apps. Let’s get one thing straight from the start: I am not some corporate tech giant or a fat-ass software dev trying to squeeze every penny out of you. By day, I’m a military officer and a family man. By night, I trade sleep for source code. I am completely self-taught, and I build apps out of pure necessity. I don't build apps based on market research or monetization trends—I build them because I actually need them in the field, and no other app on the market does exactly what I need.
Here is the story behind the tools:
🧭 KoordKonvert
This is where it all started. While working on a military training area, I constantly needed to bridge the gap between local grid systems and military MGRS coordinates to coordinate smoothly with civilian agencies. There wasn't a reliable, fully offline app—crucial when you are deep in the woods with zero cellular coverage— that did this without a hassle. So, I wrote one.
At first, it was just for me and my fellow soldiers. After polishing the UI, I figured, “Why not share it? Maybe someone else is stuck in the mud needing the same conversion.”
🐗 Hog GPS
It originally started as a simple upgrade to KoordKonvert. That idea lasted for about five minutes. It quickly mutated into a massive, standalone outdoor navigation project.
More than a year of evenings went into Hog GPS. Most of that time wasn't spent typing code—it was spent thinking about how things should work, solving logic puzzles, and honestly, questioning my life choices. By the end, I was so sick of it I almost hated it—but it’s finally alive.
Hog GPS exists because I was tired of compromise. One app had satellite views and military APP-6 symbology but required an active internet connection. Another had great routing but lacked satellite terrain overlays. A third one had it all but locked everything behind a ridiculous monthly subscription. Hog GPS combines everything a serious outdoor user needs, and yes, there is still plenty of room for future upgrades!
⏱️ apeX Timer
apeX Timer has perhaps the simplest origin story: "Because I can."
After the grueling marathon of Hog GPS, I wanted a smaller, laser-focused project done with maximum precision. The interval timer market is flooded, but it’s broken. Core features are constantly hidden behind paywalls, and you get bombarded with full-screen ads just for trying to do a workout.
The apeX Timer is streamlined—all the essential features, zero fluff.
My Philosophy (The "No Bullshit" Rule)
Since these apps started as solutions to my own problems, they all follow the same simple philosophy:
- Build apps that solve real problems. They work offline, don't drain your battery with useless background tracking, and do exactly what they promise.
- Keep them simple and practical. Core features are available without ridiculous subscriptions.
- No annoying full-screen advertisements. Period.
- Optional rewarded ads only (in KoordKonvert and Hog GPS). If you choose to unlock an extra feature, you choose to watch a quick ad to support the project. If not, the app still works perfectly.
I'm not trying to build the next billion-dollar startup. I'm simply building the apps I always wished existed.
Thank you for supporting a hobby project! Safe travels out there in the field.
